Thomas “Tom” Breen, 77, of Lake Barrington, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2025. Born on May 7, 1948, in Evergreen Park Chicago, Illinois, to William and Margaret Breen, Tom lived a life marked by service, hard work, and a deep appreciation for the natural world.

Tom was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he served his country with honor for four years before being honorably discharged. After returning home, Tom spent many memorable years at Grace Dearborn Chemicals where he put his mechanical talents to work. Later spending more than almost 30 years as a maintenance mechanic at Makray Memorial Golf Club – formerly Thunderbird. Known for his reliability and problem-solving skills, Tom took pride in a job well done.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Tom spent much of his free time exploring the wild. He especially cherished his trips to the remote regions of Canada, where he found peace and purpose in the solitude of the outdoors. His love for nature was more than a pastime — it was a way of life.

Tom held strong beliefs and was proud of his conservative values. A lifelong Republican, he valued tradition, personal responsibility, and patriotism.

He will be remembered for his quiet strength, his dedication to his craft, and his deep respect for the land and country he served.

Tom will be deeply missed by his sister, Patricia Unruh; nieces and nephews, Tim Breen, Tracy (Mark) Archuleta, Karen (Tim) DeRosett, Megan (Jason) Markantes, Jennifer (Juan Islas) Parker, Juli (Dale) Pankow; great nieces and nephews, Ryan Archuleta. Conner Archuleta , Jeremey Taylor, Zack Taylor, Cody DeRosett, Holly (Daniel) Galvez, Jessica Islas-Parker, Jenessa Islas-Parker, JJ Islas-Parker, Hailey Pankow, and Jeremy Pankow.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Jim Breen and Elizabeth Parker and by his nephew, Jeff Parker.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025 from 3 PM until 9 PM, with a memorial service at 7 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Old Rand Road, Lake Zurich. Private inurnment will follow at Ela Township Cemetery.
