Thomas C. Grady

Thomas C. Grady, 85, of Lake Zurich, Illinois, passed away on August 8, 2023.

Tom, fondly known as Tommy Boy, was born to Thomas Patrick and Lillian Grady on March 26, 1938, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He grew up in Columbus, Indiana where he excelled on the tennis team at Columbus High School. Tom attended Purdue University, where he majored in Industrial Economics and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.

Upon graduation, Tom worked as a salesman at Cutler-Hammer in Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio and Texas Instruments in Attleboro, Massachusetts before relocating to Lincolnshire, Illinois in 1971. In 1976, he left Texas Instruments to form Thermek, a manufacturer’s representative firm he successfully ran for more than 20 years before retiring in 2000.

An avid tennis player and golfer, Tom won Championship titles in both sports while a member of Ivanhoe Club in Mundelein, where he also served as both a Social and Membership Chairman. During his career, Tom was also active in fundraising efforts for The Gateway Foundation.

Tom is survived by his former wife Nancy, his sons Brian (Beth) and Steven (Sue), and his granddaughter Emilia. He is also survived by his sisters Maureen Grady, Suellen (Bill) Pavlik and Ann (Jim) Fackler. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother John (Sue) Grady.

Tommy Boy had a love of nature and was an expert on birds. He was a master storyteller with a wicked sense of humor and a true gift for engaging and entertaining those around him. He was also a self-proclaimed “Movie Guru” who enjoyed sharing his extensive knowledge of motion picture and actor trivia with anyone who would listen.

Visitation will be from 2:00pm to 6:00pm on Saturday, August 19 at Davenport Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 941 S Old Rand Rd, Lake Zurich, IL.  A service will follow at 6:00pm. Interment will be private at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to The Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org, in honor of Tom's former wife, Nancy.
