Thomas M. Lehner

October 20, 1943 — July 25, 2023

Davenport Crystal Lake

Thomas M. Lehner, 79, of Crystal Lake passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, July 25, 2023. He was born on October 20, 1943, in Chicago, to Edward and Ann (Morrison) Lehner.

Tom attended Quigley Seminary for one year before graduating from De La Salle High School in Chicago. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and was proud to serve our country.

On October 9, 1965, Tom married Gail Dipple at Visitation Church. They lived in Chicago until 1973 when they moved to their home in Crystal Lake to raise their family and have lived since.

Tom retired from UBS in Chicago as Divisional V.P., Asst. Branch Manager and worked part-time at Pit Stop because of his love of cars, especially “Christine” his ’71 Corvette.

A devoted and loving family man, Tom adored his grandchildren. “Poppy,” as he was known to them, never missed a sporting event or activity they were involved in.

He loved music, playing guitar and having sing-a-longs with family and friends, especially down in the Lehner Room. He and Gail also enjoyed camping with family, traveling, and playing pinochle with their friends. Tom played guitar at Sunday Mass at St. Thomas Church for over 35 years.

Survivors include his wife, Gail; daughters, Colleen (Mike) Tomberlin, Susan Lehner (Brian Graves), and Donna (Bill) Sudbrook, all of Crystal Lake; grandchildren, Mick (Katie), Matthew, and Erin Tomberlin, Bradley and Allison Graves, and Teagan, Will, and Lizzy Sudbrook. He is further survived by his siblings, Joan Weber, Eileen Pionke, Ed (Sue) Lehner, John (Lena) Lehner, Marian (Al) Wolf; sister-in-law, Dorothy Dipple; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 30, from 3pm until 7pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. Mass will be on Monday, July 31, at 1:30pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Tom’s name can be made to St. Thomas the Apostle Church.
