Thomas C. McGonigle

Thomas C. McGonigle, 85, of Barrington, IL passed away peacefully at Good Shepherd Hospital on February 9, 2023. He was born on October 15, 1937 in Chicago, IL to parents Charles and Mary McGonigle.

Tom was a man of many loves, most notably his faith and family.  He was a member of St. Anne Parish of Barrington where he served as a long-time volunteer.

He earned a scholarship to Northwestern through the Chick Evans Scholars Foundation as a golf caddy.  His love for golf continued well into his retirement years and he shared that passion with family and friends. He was also an accomplished sailor and delighted in cruising his sailboat on Lake Michigan and the Caribbean with family and friends (although his wife Betty couldn't swim and was terrified most of the time).

Tom was a Civil Engineer and well-respected business leader serving as Vice-President of Sales for International Harvester before moving on to a distinguished career at Komatsu-Dresser.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Betty (nee Schultheis) McGonigle; children, Gary (Sally) McGonigle, Diane (Roger) Toevs, Darlene (Daun) Medaris, Andrew (Donna) Blake, Thomas (Siri) Blake, John (Jean) Blake, Kathryn (Stephen) Hayslip, Diane (David) Bennett; grandchildren, Dayna, Branden, Daniel, Kit, Jessica, Matthew, Carly, Andrew (Heather), Matt (Melia), Kimberly (Max), Ben (Alyssa), Eric (Lauren), Julia (Evan), Mark, Neil, Elizabeth, Renee, Scott (fiance' Katie), and Paul (Britney); 4 great grandchildren and 3 on the way; 1 great-great-grandchild; 19 grand dogs and cats, siblings, Margaret, Gerald, and James (Carol) McGonigle.

Tom is preceded in death by his sister, Rosemary Koudelka; and his parents, Charles and Mary McGonigle.

Visitation is planned for Tuesday, February 14, 2023 from 5-8pm at Davenport Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W Main Street, Barrington, IL 60010.  Mass will be the following day, Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at 11am at Saint Anne Catholic Church, 120 Ela St, Barrington, IL 60010.  Burial at Evergreen Cemetery will follow after the Mass.
