Thomas Stephen Wendt, 77, of Cary, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Tom was born on July 11, 1948, in Elgin, Illinois, and was the son of the late Burton and Grace Wendt. He graduated in 1966 from Barrington High School. He attended Hiram Scott College in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Tom spent his entire career working as a lineman and crew leader for Commonwealth Edison. He also proudly served for many years as a volunteer firefighter with the Village of Barrington.
Tom cherished life on the Fox River, where he loved boating at his river home. Tom had many passions including collecting and shooting firearms at the local firing range, snowmobiling, camping, fishing, driving and collecting Mustangs, attending car races at Elkhart Lake, fixing and building things with his hands, and listening to fire department calls on the scanner. He treasured spending time with his children and grandchildren, and he loved relaxing with a glass of Sno Shoe Grog. Tom was also well known for his perfectly timed one- liner jokes that could catch everyone by surprise.
Tom will be deeply missed by many people, including his son Steven (Carey) Wendt and his grandchildren Joanna and Tyler Thomas of Cary, Illinois; his son Michael (Michelle) Wendt and his granddaughter Michaela Wendt of Driftwood, Texas; his daughter Lindsey Wendt of Bend, Oregon; his sister Susan Robertson of McHenry, Illinois; and his nieces Amy Robertson of Wonder Lake, Illinois, and Kristen (Steven) Schmaling of Wonder Lake, Illinois.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents Burton and Grace Wendt and his brother-in-law Jesse Robertson. Tom was deeply loved and will forever be cherished by his family.
A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:45 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main Street, Barrington, Illinois, 60010. A burial service will be privately held.
