Davenport Barrington

Timothy James Dunn, aka Boss (known by his peers) or Bossy (known by his grandchildren), a lifelong resident of Barrington, passed away on November 30, 2023 at the age of 72, leaving behind a profound legacy.

He is survived by his wife Chris, daughters Erin and Emily, son-in-laws Ryan and Anton, and beloved grandchildren Grace, Rosie, Brooks and Henry.

Tim’s life was marked by dedication to family, faith, country, community service and education. Tim attended St. Anne’s school in Barrington, leading to Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein on a football scholarship. It was at Carmel where he met Chris, his future wife of over 50 years. He earned his bachelor’s degree at St. Thomas University and masters degree from Northwestern, forging lifelong friendships and a deep commitment to public service and American values. Tim began teaching at Barrington High School in the late 1980’s where he taught U.S. History and served as the Department Head. His influence extended beyond the classroom to the wrestling mat and the football field, where he instilled his values of sportsmanship, integrity, and was inducted into the Coaches Hall of Fame. His passion for teaching was matched only by his dedication to his athletes and students. He loved fishing, and established the Barrington Anglers Club that provided students and teachers the opportunity to fish locally, regionally and in Canada. Tim’s faith played a significant role in his life. Involved with St. Anne’s Catholic Community and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He also received his certificate of Basic Bible Studies from Loyola University. Tim also served on the Village Board of Barrington as a trustee for 12 years. He exemplified a life of service and compassion.

Known for his generosity, Tim was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back, and three more from his closet. His love for cooking, grilling and sharing meals became his signature way of connecting with people, whether they were close friends, family, or new acquaintances. Tim’s legacy of patriotism, dedication, and community spirit, enriched by his love, wisdom, and belief in American Values will continue to inspire and guide us all.
