Trevor Miles Cannon

Trevor Miles Cannon, 51, of Barrington, Illinois, died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 4, 2026. Trevor was born on April 11, 1975, in McHenry, IL to the late Miles and Jeanne Cannon.

He was a beautiful boy who stopped passerby in their tracks with his chubby apple-red cheeks, crystal blue eyes, and towhead blond hair that let him get away with far more than he should have. Those blue eyes twinkled with a mischievousness and curiosity that gave rise to an adventurous spirit.

He excelled in youth sports, including baseball, soccer, and tennis, and went on to play soccer and tennis for Barrington High School. Trevor was also an avid skier, known for his daredevil jumps, flips, and stunts, soaring over the heads of family members tasked with capturing it all on camera during vacations to Crested Butte, CO.

His time at Winona State University was interrupted by a diagnosis of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, which he battled off and on for several years with his beloved Siberian Husky, Sativa, at his side. Trevor eventually followed his love of skiing and the call of the mountains out west to Durango, Colorado, where he worked his way up in the restaurant industry. That experience cultivated a lifelong love of food and self-taught skill in the kitchen, where he cooked by taste alone and used homemade meals as his way of caring for the people he loved.

In 2001, mutual friends introduced Trevor to his future wife, Kristin, and he instantly recognized he’d be lost without her humor, compassion, and quick wit. They married on September 10, 2004, in a beautiful outdoor ceremony in Libertyville, Illinois, and made their home in Wauconda, Illinois, where they welcomed their first child, Elkey Marion. Three years later, they celebrated the arrival of their son, Miles Chumley and settled in Barrington alongside Trevor’s mother, Jeanne, where Trevor lovingly cared for her as she navigated life with Alzheimer’s.

Shaped by childhood summers spent with his cousins on Third Crow Wing Lake in Minnesota, and the family’s Skylane Ranch in Chamberlain, South Dakota, Trevor was most at home in the great outdoors. An avid fisherman and hunter, he taught his children, niece, and nephews to love the land and all it provided – food, recreation and peace of mind.

Through all the highs and lows of life, Trevor carried the weight of significant health challenges, chronic pain, depression and addiction. He fought hard to be present for his family and celebrate their milestones and accomplishments with pride. Elkey loves the shared enthusiasm she and her dad had for sports cars and driving fast; his comforting physical presence and warm hugs; and his openness and understanding of mental health struggles. Miles treasures his time with his dad, learning to fish and hunt; he appreciates that his dad worked through physical limitations to be there for him, teaching him all about the outdoors, cheering him on in soccer and supporting him in Jiu Jitsu.

To Kristin, Trevor always felt like a safe space. He accepted her for who she is and never tried to change her. She was comforted by his presence and could rely on him to listen, to chat and to endure her wild storytelling. More than anything, he will be remembered for how fiercely he loved his family.

In his short time with us, Trevor had several brushes with mortality, and when he emerged on the other side he always made his wishes clear: he wanted his life to be celebrated for what it was; he expected us to party hard; and he wanted all of us to “rock on”. With that in mind, Visitation details are below and the family invites you to come as you are, nothing fancy – t-shirts and caps welcomed. And when you hear Pearl Jam or Ozzy Osbourne playing in the background, sing along – Trevor wouldn’t want it any other way.

Trevor is survived by his wife, Kristin; his daughter, Elkey, 17; his son, Miles, 13, and their constant canine companion, Fritzl. He is also survived by his sister, Alicia Alfano, her husband, Anthony, and their children, Tessa and Dominic; his in-laws, Eric and Jeri Swanson; his brother-in-law, Lukas; and his nephew, Mac. He was preceded in death by his parents, Miles and Jeanne Cannon.

A visitation will be held at Davenport Family Funeral Homes, 941 S Old Rand Rd, Lake Zurich, IL on Sunday, July 12, from 2 to 4 PM with a memorial service immediately following.
