Valerie Sue Shamim

Valerie “Val” S. Shamim, 75, of San Tan Valley, AZ, formerly of Harvard, IL, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, July 26, 2026, in Mesa, AZ.

Valerie was born on September 9, 1950, in Elgin, IL and raised in Crystal Lake by her loving parents, Ernest and Mildred Neumann (nee Griesmann) with her eight siblings.

On July 30, 1977, she married Mohammed Shamim at the home of her grandmother, Helen Seegers, in Crystal Lake. They would have celebrated their 49th anniversary this month.

Val and Moh resided in Harvard, IL for many years with their two children before retiring to Arizona in 2017. Val loved spending time with her grandchildren, whom she absolutely loved and adored. They were the light of her life. She enjoyed puzzles and displaying her hard work throughout their home. She always had fun vacationing to many different destinations with her husband, family and friends. She loved the Chicago Bears and White Sox and she was Patrick Swayze’s biggest fan, often referring to him as “My Patrick”.

Valerie is survived by her husband, daughter Tina Santeler of Crystal Lake, son Shan Shamim of Honolulu, HI, and five grandchildren, Emily (Adam) Hackbarth, Hannah Santeler, Madelyn Santeler, Ayden Shamim and Yasmeen Shamim, sisters, Nancy Neumann, Linda (Joe) Ebel, Darlene (Mike) Carzoli, Sandy (Dave) St. John, Debbie Stroner and Jean (Chris) Easley, brother Ken (Diane) Neumann and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Wayne, son-in-law Ken Santeler and brother-in-law Jerry Stroner.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, from 4 PM until 8 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake, IL 60014. Funeral service to be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Stewart Schulz of Immanuel Lutheran Church presiding. Burial will follow at McHenry County Memorial Park, Woodstock, IL
