Vera J. Voitik

Vera Jean (Fabian) Voitik, 90, of Cary, IL, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2024. She was born at home on April 29, 1934 in the small town of Kittanning, nestled along the Alleghany River in Southwest Pennsylvania, to the late Joseph and Helen (Lovas) Fabian. She grew up with her older brother, Joseph Fabian, Jr. whom she adored. She enjoyed skipping down the sidewalks along cobblestone streets with her father, playing with her friends, and spending time with her mother and pet kitten at home.

Vera would often walk down cobblestone alleys with her parents to their family hardware store, McConnell-Watterson, on Market Street in town. Her father shared his interest in baseball with Vera and they were both avid fans of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The family would travel to the team’s location for Spring trainings, and through the years they were often cheering their Pirates on from the box seats behind their dugout.

Vera enjoyed music, played the piano and clarinet, and sang beautifully. She was an excellent seamstress, and avid bridge player. Upon graduating from high school, Vera attended and graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL with a degree in Economics. She was a member of Kappa Delta sorority.

It was during her studies at Northwestern that she met fellow student and her future husband, Robert M. Voitik. They married after graduating and raised 5 children in a loving, caring way – helping each one to grow and mature and live a giving life as a Christian. Robert was her true love and soul-mate and they were married for over 62 years. They were rarely seen without each other until his passing in 2020.

Vera worked alongside her husband when he started his own engineering design and consultation business called Innovatex. She was active in their church and church school, played couples’ bridge with her husband, participated in many musicals, taught religious education, hosted several foster children and a German AFS student.

Vera is survived by her children, Katherine (William) Kauffmann, Linda (John) Harbaugh, Robert (Sarah) Voitik, David (Lucy) Voitik, and Diane (fiancé Scott) Barber, along with all her wonderful grandchildren, Kelly (Ryan Aiello) Meyer, James R. (Renee) Meyer, Kristy (Alex) Berger, Michael (Tiara) Harbaugh, Andrew (Hannah) Niermann, Jeff Harbaugh, Rebecca (Jordan) McGuirt, Bryan Barber, Maggie Barber, Robert J. Voitik, Jr., Jessica Voitik, and precious great-grandchildren, Declan, Parker, Keegan, Lorelei, Greta, Silas, Jonah, Lydia, Levi, Luke, Jaykob, Jonathyn and Jazmyn. She was a cherished and much-loved sister-in-law and aunt of the Voitik Brothers’ families of George, Darrell, Daniel and Michael T. Voitik; and beloved aunt of the Fabian cousins of Kittanning-Ford City-New Kensington, Pennsylvania.
