William Gapp

October 24, 1936 — December 17, 2023

Davenport, Barrington

William (Bill) Gapp passed away peacefully at 87 years of age into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, December 17, 2023, in Barrington, IL, surrounded by his three children. He was born October 24, 1936, in Chicago to William and Estella Gapp. He graduated from Lane Tech High School and served as the editor-in-chief of the Lane Tech Daily Newspaper. He then moved on to Northwestern University and graduated with a BS and MS in Industrial Engineering along with an MBA.  Bill served his country through the United States Navy in the Pentagon, the Office of Naval Intelligence, and onboard the U.S.S. Midway.  He worked in his dad’s company at Diversified Metal Products, Inc. throughout his childhood and then again after his time in the Navy.  He founded Numeridex Inc. in 1965, growing it into a successful business while standing at the helm as President for over 35 years.

Bill is survived by his children, Brad Gapp, Christy (Chris Ainsworth) Gordon, and Catherine (Johnny) Zvolensky; grandchildren, Emma, Joshua, Hannah, and Molly Gapp, Kade and Teag Gordon, and Finn Zvolensky; and the mother of his children, Jill Gapp. He was a loving, kind, wise and generous father, father-in-law, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend to anyone he met.

He came to know Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, undergoing a spiritual awakening at age 86.  His other interests included dancing, golf, working out, health advocacy, swimming, friendships, and watching all sports (including his beloved Chicago White Sox). He also relished being a sports/movie aficionado, history buff, and lover of dogs, chocolate, and ladies. Some of his finer character qualities included his love and care for others, intelligence, wit, fun-loving spirit, humor, generosity, positivity, encouragement, wisdom, guidance, and kindness to all whom he encountered.

Bill’s goal was to leave the world a better place than how he found it and he succeeded! He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will continue through his family and friends. He would want others to experience the love of his Heavenly Father through the Son, Jesus. This changed Bill’s life in his final year.

Visitation will be 10am until the celebration of life at 12pm Friday January 5th at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake Cook Road) Barrington.  Interment will be private.
