Yi Jiang

October 31, 1940 — December 22, 2022

Davenport, Barrington

On December 22, 2022, Yi Jiang, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at the age of 82 in Barrington, IL.

Yi was born on October 31, 1940 and spent the majority of her life in Nantong, Jiangsu Province, China. She received a B.S. in Politics from Suzhou University (formerly Jiangsu Normal University) in 1964. On August 28, 1964, she married Wuyue Zhang and spent nearly 60 loving years together. Yi taught social studies at Nantong County High School for over 30 years, along with her husband who was the principal of the school. Yi was deeply cherished by her students who regard her not only a devoted and loving teacher, but also their life-long mentor and advocate. Indeed, many of them remained in touch with her ever since their graduation.

Yi was an extremely kind and compassionate woman who brought joy and laughter to her whole family. She also dedicated a significant amount of time after retirement to her grandchildren. Ever since her youngest grandson Brandon was born, she has been a major contribution to his life. In 2009, Yi and Wuyue traveled to the United States to accompany Brandon and their younger daughter Bei. Throughout the past thirteen years, they both have been passionate members of the household. Yi and Wuyue could not spend one day without preparing authentic Chinese food, understanding American culture, and enjoying their stay in the U.S. with Bei’s family.

Yi is survived by her husband Wuyue, her two daughters Bei and Lei, and two grandsons Brandon and Xinyang.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
