Alexander J. Lofendo

October 23, 1961 — June 23, 2020

Davenport Crystal Lake

Alexander J. Lofendo, 58, recently of Johnsburg, formerly of Island Lake, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on June 23, 2020. He was born on October 23, 1961 in Elmhurst, IL to the late Frank and Vicki (nee Ingro) Lofendo.

Alex was a proud veteran of the Navy and served our country for 8 years. He toured the world twice and lived on the U.S.S. Saratoga in which this sailor earned the rank of an E-5 and worked as an AQ2 Aviation Fire Control Technician.  On June 8, 1991 he was united in marriage to Cindy, nee Schneegas.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughter Mykela (Paul) Kern moving back to Illinois after both of them serving in the United States Marine Corps aboard Camp Pendleton, his sister Deneen (Kenneth) Stanfield and their children Charles and Ashley of Texas, his brother Sergio Lofendo of Florida; step-mother, Ginny Lofendo of Washington; and step-brother, Sean (Andrea) McDowell and their 3 children all of Washington.

Alex had such a BIG HEART and was always giving his time, talent and resources without hesitation to those in need. He became the family chef and was known for making great pasta sauces that everyone loved and his generous hospitality was shared by sending home enjoyable left-overs from every holiday meal our family sponsored. Much of his inspiration came from cooking shows he watched on TV. He rebuilt and fixed many computers for people and was a major techy fan. He was able to give a lot of people good advice on what to get that would suit their needs.

Alex had a lot of wit and a funny sense of humor with those that knew him well. He absolutely loved the thrill of any roller coaster ride at theme parks. Alex had an outstanding memory. His naval training served him well with an unbelievable capacity to keep a large inventory or part numbers in his head at all times.

His current boss said Alex was the face of SHURE, the guy that everyone needed to have a contact with to show them the ropes and have a good working relationship with the company which has worldwide global connections. Work associates asked if he was a human computer or part robot, but the reality was Alex was a persistant trouble shooter, having the tenacity to never give up on a project until a problem was solved. Everyone wanted Alex on their team knowing the job would get done in an honest, complete, and impeccably detailed manner!

Alex had a variety of collections including: music of many genres, video games, audiobooks, Anime movies, cookbooks and kitchen gadgets and many technology tools. He also has collectible items from Halo and Star Wars. He had fun collecting coffee slogans and always had one displayed on his computer screen. Most of all, Alex loved collecting pictures together with Mykela at the yearly Daddy/Daughter Dances he took her to each year from our church. So many wonderful memories!

Alex loved animals, especially dogs and horses. He was always showering Cindy and Mykela, as well as, family members and friends with beautiful flowers.

Visitation for Alex will be Saturday, July 18, 2020, from 2 PM until 5 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte. 176), Crystal Lake, IL 60014. Funeral service with Military Honors will be held at 5 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
