Ann E. (DeBoer) Schuurman

January 2, 1928 — July 26, 2017

Ann Elaine Schuurman (nee DeBoer) passed away peacefully on July 26, 2017, at the age of 89.  She was born on January 2, 1928 in Chicago to George and Sena (nee Slager) DeBoer.  She was married for 54 years to Richard Schuurman , who preceded her in death.

During her career, Ann was the owner of A. E. Schuurman & Assoc. employment service in the northwest Chicago suburbs.  She also founded the non-profit Jubilee Jobs in Washington DC, coached 14 other jobs programs throughout the country, and volunteered as a patient advocate at Good Shepherd Hospital.   Although she did great good in serving the poor, the ill, and the unemployed, nothing was more important to her than her family.

Ann was so much fun!  She loved to find the humor in any situation and turn it into an entertaining story.  She was an avid bridge and tennis player, but her most impressive life skill was the ability to talk herself out of traffic tickets.

Ann was the beloved mother of five children:  David (Kathy) Schuurman; Richard (Heidi Wright) Schuurman; Jan (Russell Ridley) Schuurman; Patricia (Paul) Vogel; and Eric (Ela) Schuurman. In addition to her children, Ann is survived by her grandchildren Kelly (Brandon) VanDyke; Trevor (Katarina) Schuurman; Daniel (Mary Best) Schuurman; Tessa Schuurman; Logan (Stephanie) Ridley; Cambridge Ridley (Michael) Lynch; Aaron (LeAnne) Vogel; Heidi (Timothy) Lardner; Natalia Schuurman; and Julia Schuurman.  Ann was the great-grandmother of Isabel, Emelia, and Liam VanDyke; Kosta and Téa Schuurman; James and Evelyn Schuurman; Capps Ridley; Imogen Lynch; Lang and Liv Lardner.

Ann was preceded in death by her siblings James DeBoer, Marie Chapman, and John DeBoer.

Memorial visitation will be held from 10am until the time of the memorial service at 11am, Saturday, July 29 at the Lutheran Church of the Atonement, 909 E. Main St (Lake Cook Road), Barrington.  Burial at Evergreen Cemetery was held privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Jubilee Jobs, 2712 Ontario Rd. NW, Washington D.C, 20009, http://jubileejobs.org
