Arthur J. Hogfelt

January 26, 1947 — June 30, 2017

Arthur J. Hogfelt, 70, of Barrington, passed away peacefully Friday, June 30, 2017 in his home with his wife at his side. He died after a short, courageous battle against pancreatic cancer.

Arthur was born January 26, 1947. He was adopted by his loving parents, Arthur and Lillian Hogfelt, on March 23, 1948, a day always celebrated as special. He grew up in South Barrington, IL and graduated from Barrington High School in 1966. Arthur married Lynne Altenburg on April 18, 1970. They first met in 3rd grade at Grove Avenue School. They had 47 wonderful years together, raising their daughters, Louisa and Lorelei.

Arthur was a policeman, first in South Barrington and then as a Kane County Sheriff Deputy. Later, he worked for Plote, Inc as a truck driver, until a stroke disabled him. He worked hard to overcome his physical problems from his stroke to lead a happy life. He loved the Chicago Bears and the Blackhawks. He especially enjoyed his grandchildrens’ activites – baseball, basketball, soccer, hockey, wrestling, gymnastics and cheer. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Barrington.

Art is survived by his wife, Lynne and children, Louisa (Tim) Pink and Lori (Rene) Cabral as well as 9 grandchildren – Nathan and Barbara Aloisio, Kyle and Ally Pink, Calista, Calinda, Monica and Rene Cabral and Sabrina Cabral-Tavarez and 1 great-grandchild, Sophia Tavarez. Also survived by his sister, Julie Medina, brother-in-law, Larry (Bonnie) Altenburg and best friends, John and Louise Gilmore. Arthur was preceeded in death by his parents, Art and Lillian Hogfelt, his in-laws, Ruby and Emmett Altenburg, brother-in-law Jack Altenburg, his grandparents, and grandparents-in-law, Viola Louisa and Forrest Pennell.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Norem, Dr. Begum, Dr. Deveshwar and Dr. Johnson from Rockford Memorial Hospital and the entire VNA Hospice Program.

Services will be 11  AM on Friday , July 7,2017 at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 401 East Main Street (Lake-Cook Road), Barrington, IL 60010. There will be a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. in the church with Pastor Jana Chwalisz officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family or St. Paul United Church of Christ.
