Barbara Cukierski

February 17, 1952 — February 12, 2021

Barbara Dorothy Cukierski (nee Musielak) passed away on February 12, 2021 at the age of 68. She was born on February 17, 1952 to Harriet (nee Jadwiga Nowicki) and Kazimierz Musielak.

Barb grew up with her parents, brother Hank and sister Theresa in Morton Grove, where she attended Good Counsel High School. It was during her high school years that she met her husband, Gerry. Did we mention she was nominated for Gordon Tech High School Prom Queen in 1970? Not too shabby.

Barb and Gerry married in 1975 and shared 45 wonderful years together. Barb always emphasized the importance of education and exemplified that by graduating with high honors from Bradley University. She didn’t stop there; she went on to earn her JD from DePaul University and practiced as an attorney for many years before leaving the profession to focus on her greatest joy, raising her two wonderful children.

Barb did many things with her husband, but perhaps their most successful endeavor together (besides raising their two children) was co-founding a successful CPA firm, Cukierski & Cochrane LLC. She played an integral role in maintaining the family business for the past 40+ years.

Barb found the most joy in everyday moments spent with the people she loved. Whether it was a special holiday or just a regular day, you can be sure Barb would have enough food prepared (sometimes enough to feed a small army!). Her three grandchildren, Connor, Brinley, and Liam were the light of her life and she was always the first to brag about them.  Many of Barb’s most treasured memories came from the family’s lake house in Green Lake, Wisconsin, and annual trips to Disney World with her two children as they were growing up (and later with their spouses and families).

When someone needed help, Barb was the first one to step in and lend a hand. She served as a board member for Illinois Friends of St. Coletta’s and worked to organize their annual golf event. She volunteered her time as an active participant in the parent’s club at her sons’ school. She was always quick to offer advice and a hug right when someone needed it most. She will always be remembered for her generosity and kind heart.

Barb is survived by her husband, Gerry; her children, Mike (Sandra) and Nick (Alyssa); her grandchildren, Connor, Brinley and Liam; and brother, Hank (Michelle) Musielak. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Theresa Nitka. She will be missed by brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and many special friends.

Services will be held privately. Anyone is invited to view the services virtually on Monday, February 22nd at 11:00 a.m. by visiting this link: https://vimeo.com/event/710649/ccfa58b153 . A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Barb always appreciated charities supporting children and dogs, like St. Jude Children's Hospital and Live Like Roo Foundation. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in her name to an organization of your choosing that benefits those causes.
