Carol Raymond McClintock

November 5, 1924 — February 7, 2019

Davenport, Barrington

Carol Raymond McClintock, 94 of Barrington passed away peacefully February 7 in Cape Coral, FL.  She was born November 5, 1924 in Cincinnati and grew up in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.  Carol graduated from the University of Iowa with a BA in Liberal Arts in 1946, and and MA in 1948.  Her field of expertise was speech pathology and audiology.  Upon graduation she became a speech and hearing therapist for Evanston Township High School and eventually Chicago Public Schools.

Carol met David McClintock, an electrical engineer, through the “PKK” or Post Kollege Klub held at the Evanston Methodist Church while David attended Northwestern University for graduate studies.  Dave was the President of this large and active group of graduates and young professionals.  They married in August, 1952.  Carol and Dave lived in Chicago for 3 years then moved to Palatine while Dave worked on building their house in Barrington.  The family became residents of Barrington in 1957.

During her years as a wife and mother to 4 children, Carol found time to serve her community in a variety of ways.  She was an avid gardener, and she became a founding member of the Field and Flower Garden Club.  She was an active member of the Countryside School Mothers’ Club.  She served as publicist for the committee that was formed to study the possibility of a Unit District for the Barrington area in 1972.  Carol also served on numerous boards and commissions dealing with the Christian Education programs at the United Methodist Church, both locally and at the district level.  She became a writer of church school curriculum for the Methodist Churches of Illinois.  Carol and David were members of the Barrington United Methodist Church for over 50 years.

Carol was a member of the American Hemerocallis Society, and she took great pride in her beautiful gardens filled with daylilies.  In addition to her love of gardening she enjoyed sewing and designing her own clothing, and she studied nutrition.  Carol strongly supported the arts.  She and David attended Elgin Symphony Orchestra concerts for more than 30 years.  They also supported Northwestern University in the construction of the new Bienen School and Music.

Carol is survived by her daughter Holly McClintock Bowling; sons Kennon McClintock, and Steve McClintock; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
