Carrie Lydia (Appleberg) Vought

August 21, 1936 — November 14, 2021

Davenport Crystal Lake

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Carrie, our loving, devoted mother and friend to all those who knew her. She left us surrounded by her family on November 14th, 2021, in Woodstock, IL, at the age of 85. Carrie was born on August 21st, 1936, and was the beloved mother of Connie, Carole, and Cathie and the proud grandmother of Joshua, Sarah, David Ryan, Brian, Bradley, Michael, and Melissa.  She is also survived by her devoted sister, Elsie Jane, and brother, Peter.

Carrie, a graduate of Crystal Lake High School, began her banking career as a Page in a Detroit bank when she was a teenager. In 1979, she was elected Director of First National Bank of Crystal Lake. She was president of the Business and Professional Woman’s Organization, secretary of Grace Lutheran Church in Woodstock, a member of the Board of Directors of the McHenry County College Foundation and worked with the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce on EXPO ’85.  Carrie won the Chamber Athena Award in 1986-1987. The ATHENA Award Program was developed in 1982 to honor exceptional female or male leaders who demonstrate the highest levels of professional excellence, contribute time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community and actively assist others, particularly women, in realizing their leadership full potential. Carrie was the first women to become a member of the bank board of directors. She retired from her banking career as executive Vice-president of First National Bank of Crystal Lake. She then focused her talents and energy as manager at Upstairs Downstairs Antique Shop for 11 years.

Carrie lived a full life as a wonderful mother and touched the lives of many. She volunteered in her daughter's kindergarten classroom in Florida where she played an integral role in the students’ learning and assisted her daughter all while having fun together. She loved to read, garden, bird watch, and kept an immaculate house!

Most of all, she loved her family and instilled in her daughters’ strong values that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

A celebration of Carrie’s life will be held at Davenport Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, on Friday, November 26, 2021, beginning at 10 a.m.
