Casey Lynn Handal

July 10, 1978 — February 1, 2020

Davenport Lake Zurich

When God takes someone away from us,

He leaves the most important thing about that person in us…..right here in our hearts.

When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure.

Casey Lynn Handal was born on July 10, 1978 in Houston, Texas.  After her elementary school years, she moved with her family to the suburbs of Chicago.  Upon her graduation from Barrington High School, she attended Purdue University where she received a BS in pharmacy.  She launched her career with Walgreens as she pursued an MBA.  Casey worked in the stores as well as in the Deerfield corporate office, her most recent position being Corporate Director.

Casey married Zadette Rosado on New Year’s Eve 2019 in the presence of her two daughters, Payton and Reese Kozlowski. The special occasion was attended by so many friends and family members. Her daughters were the loves of her life and she was an amazing Mom.

Casey displayed kindness, humor, wit and a bright smile. She loved having fun with friends and family, and we loved her gentle spirit and infectious laughter. She enjoyed carpool karaoke, dressing up for Halloween at work, and participating in triathlons with her friends.  She extended a helping hand to friends and co-workers, and enjoyed mentoring young people who came after her. Casey became a part of the LGBTQ community and was even part of the Pritzker inauguration speech for her resilience in the face of adversity and hate.

Casey brought joy to so many and will be missed, but not forgotten……a beautiful soul gone too early.

She is preceded in death by her mother Suzanne May Handal, her grandfather Mike Handal, and her grandparents Arthur and Gwen May. She is survived by her wife Zadette and daughters Payton and Reese, her parents William and Jalana Handal, and her brother Philip Handal, his wife Stacey and their son Will. She is also survived by her grandmother Georgette Handal, and grandparents Jack and Pat Smith.

Casey also loved spending time with her extended family. She is survived by her uncles George Handal and wife Mona, and Jimmy May. Her surviving aunts are Dr. Penny Hopkins, Ginger Pierce and husband Jim, and Adeline Sorgenfrei and husband Michael.

Her surviving cousins are Michael Handal and wife Jessica, Antony Handal and wife Liz, April Mace and husband Jeff, James Pierce, Kevin Pierce, Andrew Sorgenfrei, George Handal, Jack Handal, Emma Handal, and Liam Mace.
