Charles Milett

August 27, 1941 — April 3, 2020

Davenport, Barrington

Charles was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on August 27, 1941, the son of Lawrence and Jeanette (Jeltema) Milett. He married Dr. Shirley Conibear at the Chicago Botanic Gardens on June 9, 2001.

In loving memory of a caring husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Charles was a daring entrepreneur, an avid golfer, a world traveler and a generous philanthropist. He was a proud BS/MBA graduate of Michigan State University and owned/operated his own tax and investment firm for many years. On more Saturdays than not, you could find Charles out on the golf course with his life-long golf buddies. The only reason he missed his regular Saturday tee-time was to go out on one of his many adventures – these ranged from rustic rafting trips through the Grand Canyon to elegant European cruises. He donated a significant amount of time and resources to Habitats for Humanity, the Rotary Club and the YMCA. Charles truly had a lust for life and carried himself with unbridled optimism, charm and a sharp wit. He will be forever remembered and missed dearly by all that were lucky enough to have known him.

He is survived by his wife of almost 20 years, Dr. Shirley Conibear; his daughter, Colleen Peshek; his brother, Norm and Denise Milett; his sister, Mary and Jim Schoon; his grandchildren, Michael Milett, Brianna Peshek and Shelby Peshek; his great grandchild, McKinley Peshek; his nieces Tamara Schoon, Tanya Thayer and Hattiebelle Milett; and his cousin Nancy Webb.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Charles L. Milett II; and his former spouse, Kathleen Milett.

Due to the current situation, there will not be a memorial service at this time but one will be planned for the Summer.

In lieu of flowers, please donate in memory to Habitats for Humanity, Rotary International or the YMCA.
