David Allen Hill

March 24, 1948 — October 2, 2021

Davenport Crystal Lake

David A. Hill, 73, of Woodstock, IL, passed away on October 2, 2021. He was born in Okmulgee, OK, on March 24, 1948 to Ruby (neé Dozier) and Roy (Bud) Hill, Jr.

At the age of 4, his family moved from Oklahoma to Freeport, Texas. After a number of moves within the south Texas area, Dave graduated from Goliad High School, Goliad, TX.

Dave attended Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, OK (now Southern Nazarene University). He graduated from Lamar University, Beaumont, TX, with two degrees: Bachelor of Science in Oceanographic Technology and Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, which became his life occupation. Dave put himself through college by being a radio DJ in both Oklahoma City and Beaumont. Upon graduation, he started working at Dow Chemical in Lake Jackson, TX, in their research department. One of his most notorious research jobs was at the “Red Planet” plant where they made iron oxide catalyst.

Dave married Linda Saunders in Port Arthur, TX, on February 4, 1973. They settled in Clute, TX, and were blessed with three children, Damon, Taylor, and Logan. While living in Clute, Dave was involved in local theater and city politics.

In 1988, Dave’s position at Dow took him to the Chicago area, and he moved his family to Crystal Lake, IL. After 26 years, he ended his career with Dow and began working at CVC Thermoset Specialties. After 18 years there, he retired in October of 2020.

Dave married Marianne Dennis on September 6, 2014, in Crystal Lake, and they moved to Woodstock, IL. Dave and Marianne share six children, ten grandchildren, and four spouses.

Dave loved life and filled his time with many activities and hobbies, including piloting airplanes & hot-air balloons, antique cars, motorcycles, beekeeping, and local musical theater. One very special activity that was most important to him was singing, especially worship songs. Hymns, Southern Gospel, and singing in church were his favorites. His rich bass voice and ability to harmonize are going to be missed by so many. His most recent adventure was camping with Marianne visiting family and friends around the country.

Dave had a special place in his heart for all of his grandchildren, and he was very active in their lives. He was present at all of their sporting events, school and church activities. He cherished the ordinary times like playing board games, reading them books, and just spending time with them. He frequently would stop by unannounced just to see them.

He is survived by his wife, Marianne; children, Damon (Michele Moser), Taylor, Logan (Tim) Fraser, and their mother, Linda; grandchildren, Morgan, Kingston, Larkin, Deacon, and River; stepchildren, Heidi (Charlie) Sommers, David Zapp; step-grandchildren, Jessica, Justin, Judith, Isaiah, and Evan. He is further survived by his siblings, Robert (Joann), Kathy (Norman) Crowder, Donna Fay, and Richard (Donna); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bud and Ruby; grandparents, and his stepdaughter, Rebekah, and her husband, Chris.
