Domenick (Nick) John Garibotti, PhD February 23, 1925-January 9, 2020.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio to Lazzaro and Margherita Garibotti. Nick was the beloved husband of 67 years of Caroline (Ricci); loving father of Laura (Robert Wiberg), Karen (Kevin Ward), Jeff (Missy) and Bruce; dear grandfather to Kate and Elle Wiberg, Erik (Abby) Ward and Kris (Ali) Ward and Julia and Joe Garibotti; and proud great-grandfather of Will Ward. He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger sister, Mary Garibotti.

Nick loved spending time with his family and friends pursuing his interests in skiing, traveling, sailing and playing tennis. Nick and Caroline were enthusiastic travelers and enjoyed traveling the world, meeting new people, trying new foods and learning about new cultures. Nick and Caroline passed the travel gene along to their children. Nick was an avid reader and his inquisitive mind never tired of learning; he was always an analytical thinker.

Nick studied metallurgy engineering and graduated with a PhD from Case Western Reserve in 1955. In the early 1960s, Nick worked on the development of micro-circuitry, he presented a paper at the Royal Radar Establishment in England and was awarded several patents in the field of semiconductors. Subsequently, Nick was involved in studying the effects of nuclear radiation on electronic components, guidance systems for missiles and the support and development of lunar guidance systems for the Apollo missions. Nick continued his work on small circuits for commercial use at Zenith, and later was involved in the development of touch screen technology at ITW. Nick had a tireless and tenacious work ethic and retired from the field as the Vice-President of Development Engineering at Harmon Manufacturing in the 1990s.

Nick’s jovial disposition, infectious smile and twinkling blue eyes will be missed by his loving family and dear friends.
