Dorothy Colby

January 4, 1945 — April 21, 2021

Davenport Crystal Lake

Dotti Colby passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children and husband on Wednesday April 21st. She was born and raised in El Paso, Texas before moving to Illinois to raise her family. After raising her children as a single mother, she was fortunate to meet and marry the love of her life, Rob Colby.  They spent 36 years together enjoying time with family, cooking, camping, fishing, yard work along with rescuing and caring for countless fur babies.

Dotti always loved animals and to her grandchildren, she was known as Grandma Beagles. Her Granddaughter, Carli Olson shared that”Grandma didn’t go to veterinarian school, but I think she could have passed the boards.  She was always my first call when something went wrong with my dogs.  Somehow she always had the answers to my questions.  Animals were her passion and her knowledge was vast.  She taught me many things, but most importantly (and she would agree) she taught me how to be a great dog Mom.”

Dotti was an independent, strong – willed, supportive woman with a great sense of humor .  She loved making chile rellenos.  While she was careful to remove the seeds, a few in the batch would always be super hot.  Family members laughed and cried as they tried to sneak their spicy rellenos back on the serving plate.

Dotti is survived by her husband, Rob Colby; children: Kelli Olson, Kerri Schweda and Ken Colby and his wife Stephanie Colby; grandchildren: Carli (Lady Jane)Olson, Chad Olson, Kortiny Schweda, Kyle Schweda, Madison Colby and Carsyn Colby; and great-granddaughter Camille (Boo)Kaleta.

She was preceded in death by her children: Laurie Ciolino and James Ciolino, mother, Hallie Hinson; father Jake Montgomery; and brother Billy Purser.

Because our pets give us unconditional love and enrich our lives, Dotti would be honored to have donations made to Young at Heart Senior Pet Adoption, 4301 S. IL 47 Woodstock, Illinois 60098.

We would like to extend special thanks to all of the nurses, doctors and staff at Advocate Lutheran General in Park Ridge, IL.  Their skilled and compassionate care was greatly appreciated.
