Duane "Butch" Figurski

Duane “Butch” Figurski, 80, of Fox River Grove passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on November 11, 2021. He was born on January 14, 1941 in Chicago to Henry and Lottie Figurski.

In May of 1961 Duane married his grade school sweetheart, Carolyn, whom he had met at a carnival. They celebrated 60 beautiful years of marriage and were blessed with two daughters and further blessed with 5 grandchildren. His family was everything, especially his grandchildren – who brought him the greatest joy.

Duane retired as a manager from AT&T/Illinois Bell after over 40 years of dedicated service. Even after his retirement, Duane always kept busy; whether it was starting up small side businesses or researching and investigating things that piqued his interest. He was a very intelligent man that wanted to know everything.

His sense of adventure and eagerness to learn led him to new opportunities, including earning his pilot’s license. He was a Fox River Grove Trustee for many years as well as a member of the Fox River Grove Lions Club. Duane enjoyed tending to his garden and loved being a devoted family man. He had a sharp wit and loved to tease those he loved. His great sense of humor will be missed by all.

Duane will be deeply missed by his devoted wife, Carolyn; loving daughters, Jody (John) Gervens and Sue (Marko) Thompson-Krpan; cherished grandchildren, Jay, Jesse and Jamie Gervens, Alexis and Mackenzie Thompson; dear sister, Ginger Grove; and by many loving nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Gary Figurski.

Memorial Visitation will be Saturday, November 27, 2021 from 12 Noon until 3 PM with a brief prayer service to follow at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W. Main Street (Lake-Cook Rd) Barrington, IL 60010. Interment will be private.
