Elsie A. Sorensen, 91, longtime resident of Barrington, passed away peacefully at home on March 3, 2021. She was born on September 23, 1929 in Chicago to John and Mary Mudrak.

Her parents immigrated to the United States from Czechoslovakia and raised their 9 children (7 boys and 2 girls) in the Pilsen neighborhood in Chicago.

Elsie graduated from Harrison High School and started work as a teletype specialist at Ryerson Steel in Chicago. On May 2, 1953 Elsie married Howard C. Sorensen in Chicago, they later moved to Arlington Heights in 1958 where they raised their 5 children and finally settled in Barrington in 1971. Elsie and Howard celebrated 23 beautiful years of marriage until his passing in 1975.

Elsie was a devout Lutheran and was a member of the Lutheran Church of Atonement in Barrington.

Above all, Elsie was the best mom in the world and will be deeply missed by her loving daughters, Nancy (Brian Lawrence) Sorensen of Mesa, AZ; Alice (David) Harbutte of Westminster, CO; Jane (Dick) Sumerfield of Boulder, CO; Christine Sorensen of Barrington, IL and Kirsten Sorensen of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Nichole Peterson, Timothy Sumerfield, Sally Brewster, Kara Roberts and Amy Sumerfield; great-grandchildren, Steven, Colton and Evelyn Brewster, Mickayla Peterson, Eloise and Emelia Sumerfield and Ace Roberts.

In addition to her loving husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Kristin and by her parents.

Graveside services will be privately held.
