Gary Lee Campbell

July 7, 1957 — November 10, 2021

Davenport Crystal Lake

Gary Campbell, 64, of Crystal Lake and Cary, passed away from this life unexpectedly on November 10, 2021. He was the loving husband of Betsy Campbell and cherished his daughter, Christina Campbell. He was born in Highland Park, Illinois, as the first child of Lee Campbell and Patricia Campbell. He was a proud and loving brother of his five siblings, Greg, Glenn, Kathleen, Charlene, and Karen.

Gary was an avid fisherman who felt most at peace on the water with a fishing pole in hand. He spent hours on the boat with loving friends and family. He named his boat after his daughter, and found great joy out of teaching her to fish. Gary was also a 40+ year member of the carpenter union. Gary felt most pride in what he created from his hands. When it
came to his work, he was often described to “talk your ear off”– he was so passionate and inspired in his building projects. He was very close to his
brother in-law, Scott, as they were work partners and fishing buddies.

He was a compassionate and loving soul who cared for animals the same as people. He loved his dogs, but also loved the wild bunnies, skunks, and stray dogs he rescued throughout his life. Gary filled his home with music and used guitar as his creative expression. He would blast 70’s and 80’s rock n’ roll in the garage while he worked on projects. He attended hundreds of concerts throughout his life and has saved every ticket stub.

He is survived by his wife, Betsy Campbell; his daughter, Christina Campbell; his father, Lee Campbell (Martha); his step-son, Benjamin Danielson; two grandchildren, Summer and Natalia; along with his five siblings, Greg (Teri), Kati (Scott),
Glenn (Tracy), Char (Ken), Karen (Tom) and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Campbell; his step-daughter, Lisa Danielson; and many life-long friends.

A private service will be held for the family.   However, please leave a fond memory of Gary or a condolence for his family on his Tribute Wall.
