George and Nancy Harris

b. 2019

Davenport Barrington

George Morris Harris, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed on to Glory on December 29, 2018; preceded by his wife of sixty-two years, Nancy Roseanna DeRobertis Harris, who passed on December 11, 2012. They are both missed by their son George, their daughters Kathleen and Jennifer (Michael) Fields. Their grandchildren Krista, Tom, Christopher, Michelle, Brittany, Chelsea and Ashley miss them very much, too. Their great grandchildren are Noah, Trevor, Andrew, Alexis, Seth, Jude, Colin, Lily, Evie and Tommy.

George and Nancy lovingly blessed their family and friends all their lives. They loved to play Bridge together. George very much enjoyed playing poker, especially in his retirement with his good friends on Longboat Key. George requested that his love of pineapple upside down cake would be mentioned. Nancy loved to make it for him. George was a chemical engineer with a degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He was a pioneer in the development of gas and oil pipeline coatings, as well as others types of anti-corrosion technologies. He was sought after all over the world for his expertise.

Nancy loved every kind of expression of beauty and culture. Along with George, Nancy shared her love of the beauty and wonder of creation with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They were also taught to appreciate the arts, music, architecture, and the theatre. George and Nancy also passed on their faith and loved to show caritas —love in action—and hospitality to their many family members and friends.  And most of all, they lived in the joy of the Lord and loved to laugh.

We know that they are both still with us all in the fullness of God’s love in Jesus Christ and we praise the Lord for that, especially in this Resurrection Season.

A Memorial Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 1 from 4-8 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W Main St., Barrington. The Memorial Service will be held Thursday, May 2 at 12 Noon at Barrington United Methodist Church, 98 Algonquin Rd, Barrington.

In lieu of flowers, if you would like to, please make a donation to the George M and Nancy D Harris Fund at Barrington United Methodist Church. The donations will be used as the church staff see fit, but especially for the projects of the United Methodist Women  because Mom loved being involved with and nurtured by her sisters in Christ. In addition, our parents were very concerned for people in need not only in the local area, and in Chicago, but around the world, so the work of Missions will benefit from donations as well, partly in gratitude for the way the members of Barrington United Methodist Church have supported George's and Nancy’s daughter Kathleen in mission to Kazakhstan, Russia and elsewhere. Other Charities they were dear to our parents’ hearts were Save the Children ; The Red Cross ; The American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the World Wildlife Fund .
