Obituary

Gerald E. Meyer, 77, a long-time resident of Prairie View passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on May 17, 2020. He was born on September 21, 1942 in Reedsburg, WI to the late Gerhardt and Zita Meyer.

Gerald grew up on a dairy farm in rural Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Platteville for 2 years and then went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He worked at Micro Switch in Freeport, IL, where he met Karen. They were happily married for 52 years. He also worked at Bell and Howell for a few years before working and retiring from Zenith Electronics in computer systems after 25 years. He enjoyed woodworking and stained glass. He had the patience to sit for hours to complete a Victorian dollhouse with furniture and working lights, as well as building many models including cars, trucks, and planes out of different types of wood. He also created many stained-glass pieces from small sun catchers to larger framed art. His latest projects were matchstick models and included a train and a fire truck.

Gerald will be joyfully remembered by his loving wife, Karen; daughter, Mary (Don) Walz; grandchildren, Bradley, Katie, Chloe; son, Jon, his wife, and their three children; sisters, Julaine Meyer and Bonnie (Brian) Hauke, brother, Richard (Sandra) Meyer, brother-in-law, Ernie Thieding; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Sharon Thieding, and brother, Gary Meyer.
