James W. Polowy

James Walter Polowy, 74, of Long Grove, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2021. He was born on February 23, 1947 to the late Harold and Bernice ‘Bunny’ Polowy.

On September 28, 1974, Jim was united in marriage to Susan J. Carlstrand at Glenview Community Church in Glenview and together, they had two children. Jim loved and was loved by his kids and their teammates from their many sporting activities, soccer, softball, baseball, and basketball. He has also passed along his love for art and design to his kids.  Jim was the proud recipient of the ‘Carnegie Medal for Heroism’ from the Carnegie Hero Fund for saving a woman’s life from a sinking car in the Miami Canal.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Susan; children, Jamie Shea (Christopher) Andrekopoulos and Brady James (Helen) Polowy; grandchildren, Ronan Hauk and June Cassidy Polowy, and Tobin Rowley and Bode Charles Andrekopoulos; mother-in-law, Betty J. Carlstrand; nephew Christopher (Jennifer) Cisek and many other cousins, nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his Sister, Patty (nee Polowy) Cisek; brother-in-law, Mike Cisek; and nephew, Brian Cisek.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021 from 4pm to 7pm at Brother's Field, 344 Old McHenry Road, Long Grove, Illinois 60047. The celebration will be casual and held in an outdoor tent with drinks, light refreshments and an open mic to share your favorite stories and memories of Jim.
