James D. Shaver

December 2, 1980 — September 5, 2020

Davenport, Lake Zurich

James D. Shaver, 39, of Wauconda, IL, was born on December 2, 1980 and passed away on September 5, 2020. James was the beloved husband of Julie Shaver (nee Mete); loving son of Jim and Cindy Shaver; dear brother of Mathew Shaver, Hayden (Nadia) Shaver, and Nick (Carissa) Gorham; cherished grandson of Robert and the late Shirley Shaver, and Jim and Joyce Ward; sweet son-in-law of Don and Rosie Mete; caring brother-in-law of Gina Mete and Angela Mete; adored uncle of Sofia and Briana Onan, and Lexi and Stella Gorham; and treasured nephew, cousin, friend, and coworker of many, many more.
James spent the last couple weeks of his life in the hospital and hospice care, in a coma following a cardiac arrest - an unexpected and devastating event whose cause is still unclear and will likely never be understood. James, with his wife, Julie, by his side, held on long enough for close family and friends to say goodbye.
James was a loving, caring, generous, loyal, strong, and passionate person. He would go above and beyond for anyone and anything he cared about. He truly loved his family, friends, and his dogs. He was also known for his sense of humor, and could make anyone laugh with his one-liners. James grew up in Vero Beach, FL and Peoria, IL. As an adult he moved to Chicago, IL and has lived in Chicago and the northwest suburbs (Lake Zurich and Wauconda) with his wife ever since. James and Julie married just over six years ago in the Riviera Maya, surrounded by loved ones.
James was a golfer, getting on the course any chance he got, any time of the year. He loved working on his Jeep Wrangler, spoiling his dogs, traveling with his wife, being outside, enjoying the small everyday moments, spending time with family and friends, watching soccer and hockey, and enjoying a glass of Jameson and a good cigar.
James worked in the bar and restaurant industry his entire adulthood, and was known as a strong and intelligent general manager. He was well-respected by his coworkers, and his compassion and leadership skills brought out the best in others. James left a positive impact on all who were blessed to have known him. This tragic and sudden loss leaves so many stunned and heartbroken.
