Jerry Lee Newman

Jerry L. Newman was born October 15, 1946 in Indianapolis, IN to Gerald and Georgianna Newman.  He passed away peacefully at his home December 31, 2020, surrounded by his loving family.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 37 years, Pam; children, Kriste (Josh) Amherdt, Chris (Kristina) Newman, and Kyle Newman; grandchildren, Hannah Miller, Hailey Miller, Brogan Amherdt, and Niko Newman; and sister, Pamela (Steve) Fritch.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Corpsman in the Navy, Graduate from Purdue University, Pharmacist, Husband, Father, Grandfather, and friend. Jerry was so many things to so many people. From the family perspective: Our go to. Our hero. Our anchor. Our tequila shot instigator with an alter ego and devilish smirk. Our most gracious host, Jerry loved entertaining and making people feel at home in his. Our medical advisor. Our selfless gentleman. Our ever-present force of strength and encouragement. Our biggest supporter. Our doughnut and fish fry connoisseur. Our reliable mister fix-it. Our music lover and adventure seeker. Our hard-working provider. Our generous role model who was quick to lend a hand to everyone. Our brave warrior. Our best friend. Our Papa.

He would have hated everyone standing around him crying over him. Therefore, the family will be having two unconventional celebrations of life to honor him. One will be in the coming weeks, held at the family’s hub of their life, his home. In a safe, socially distanced drive-by “wake” illuminating his pride and joy: his home and family. The second will be held in the summer at one of his favorite places: his pool deck. Listening to music, laughing, toasting in his honor and sharing stories of his amazing life.
