Davenport Crystal Lake

Joseph Edward Majko, age 29, of Crystal Lake, IL passed away suddenly on Friday July 16th, 2021.

Joseph was a kind and sensitive young man full of life and dreams for his future. He never hesitated to give those he loved one of his giant hugs along with one of his big, beautiful, bright smiles. Most especially, Joe loved his sister, Katie. There was nothing he would not do for her!

Joe was especially serious about going on missions with his church. One mission he was compelled to join was going to New Orleans right after Hurricane Katrina. He returned tired but humbled and gratified that he accomplished the good he set out to do. We were not surprised. No matter what the setback or difficulty might be in any given case, Joe got back up and tried again until he accomplished whatever it was that he was attempting to do. We were always so proud of Joe!  He could have accomplished so much more if his life had not been taken from us so suddenly.

While in high school, Joe participated in Marching and Concert Bands as a member of the Percussion section, something he simply loved to do. The highlight for him was going on band trips to Florida and California where his band participated in competitions at Disney World. After graduating from Crystal Lake South High School, Joe attended Valparaiso University where he made many new friends while enjoying campus activities such as pep band and helping at a church, St. Teresa of Avila, next to the campus.

Upon earning his Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry & Psychology, Joe worked at various jobs to save money so he could attend a local University to earn his master’s degree in Social Work. At the time of his death, he had already completed 1-1/2 years of that degree. We have no doubt he would have brought many people comfort had he been able to continue with his life.

In his free time, Joe enjoyed playing his guitar and drums and would often relax on the couch reading one of his many books, his tightly bonded cat, Henry, curled up beside him. He also loved to cook and he would frequently be found in the kitchen trying a new recipe. He excelled at making fresh pasta and sauce, risotto from scratch, salmon, and lobster as well as creating a complete Thanksgiving dinner for the family. With one of his big grins, he admitted he needed more practice making pizza but said he preferred eating his Uncle Joe and Aunt Christine's Nubiano Restaurant pizza anyway.  Weekend breakfasts were amazing since no one could make crepes as delicious as Joey, filled with melted chocolate and strawberries.  Joey also loved making spinach omelets for his Mom and he uniquely named it his Momelet.  His Momelet's heart is broken just like the eggs he used to make her special breakfast.

Joseph is survived by his grieving loving parents, Denise Siciliano and Alfred Majko; sister, Katie Majko; future brother-in-law, James Coats; grandmother, Helen Siciliano; aunts, Diane Siciliano, Donna Siciliano, and Christine Siciliano; uncles, Joseph Siciliano II, Richard Majko and Mark Tokarz. Joseph will also be greatly missed in so many ways by cousins, David, Kristen, Dana, Anthony, Joey, and Frankie Siciliano. In addition to Joseph's family, there are an infinite number of extended family, close friend's of Joe and of our family, Joe's family cats, Henry and Lucy, together with our long-time neighbors, who are all feeling the same deep, searing loss for which we find much comfort seeing how very much he was loved.

Joseph is preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Joseph Siciliano, Sr.; and paternal grandparents, Edward and Isabelle Majko. We pray Joseph is with them and has been welcomed into their arms with immense love. We will love and miss him always and forever.

A visitation for Joseph will be held from 5pm-9pm on Monday, July 26, 2021, at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte. 176), Crystal Lake, IL 60014. A second visitation will take place at the funeral home the following morning from 8:30am until prayers at 9:15 am followed by a procession to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 451 W.
