Kay M. (Esselstrom) Cummings

Kay M. Cummings, 80, of Cary, was born March 28, 1941, in Superior, WI to Gideon and Inez (nee Christensen) Esselstrom. She passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2021, in Cary.

On April 14, 1962, Kay married John Cummings in Chicago, then moved to Cary where they built their home and raised their three daughters. During her time as a stay-at-home mom, she was a very dedicated volunteer at her daughters’ schools.  Once her children were older, Kay worked outside the home in various secretarial and administrative positions.

Kay loved to sew, do crossword puzzles, and cheer for the Chicago Cubs. She also enjoyed attending John’s many band concerts and performances. Kay had a sweet tooth and loved a trip to the casino.

She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Cummings, Sharon (Jeff) Anderson, and Sandra (DJ) Scott; her granddaughters, Janette (Mike) Scott-Lucas, Gwen Scott, and Shelby Anderson; her grandson, Daniel Anderson; her brother, Duane (Kathy) Esselstrom; her sister-in-law, Wilmar Cummings; her nephews, Jacob (Kristen) Esselstrom, Luther (Jen) Esselstrom, and Dale Cummings; and her niece, Dawn (Ron) Sheppard.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John.

Per Kay’s wishes, no services will be held.
