Kenneth Robert Janiak

Kenneth Robert Janiak, 73, of McHenry, born on March 4, 1946 in Chicago, IL to the late Aloysius and Irene Janiak (nee Sebeil) and passed away on January 19, 2020 in Barrington, IL. Ken was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Lora Jean Janiak. He is survived by his wife, Georgenne Van Geenen; his son, Matthew (Jamie) Janiak; and family, extended family and friends.

He graduated from Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and a minor in Chemistry and Education. He had many jobs: Owasippe Scout Camp (Eagle Scout), Plano High School (teacher), Dundee High School (teacher), Apollo Microwave Products, Pioneer Center for the Exceptional, School District 47 and 155 (bus driver), and tutoring Math and English at McHenry County College.

Ken enjoyed WHITE CASTLE, CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES, wood sculpting, swimming, chess, guitar, music festivals, plays, canning pickles, cooking from scratch, creating projects of all kinds and telling JOKES to get people to laugh. He started telling jokes at the age of 7 according to friends.

He traveled to Alaska, Europe, Columbia and Snake River, and hiked and camped in the Appalachian Mountains.

Come reminisce and celebrate the life of Ken with your favorite joke. The family is requesting visitors to wear a flannel shirt, ties are optional. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 from 12:00pm until 4:00pm at Hickory Hall, 406 West Woodstock St., Crystal Lake, IL.
