Larry Lee Lincoln, 85, of Barrington, passed away peacefully on Tuesday May 23, 2023, in Barrington. He was born on May 24, 1937, to Arthur and Mary (Wilson) Lincoln in Dysart, Iowa. He attended Dysart High School where he played basketball, baseball and was a tuba player in his high school band. He graduated from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa with a Bachelor’s Degree, having concentrated his studies on Theology and Education. Larry received his Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana.
Larry was a teacher with the Barrington Community Unit 220 School District where he taught 6th, 7th and 8th grade Math, Science and Social Studies, among other subjects, for decades. He was later named Principal of Huntley Elementary School and remained in that position for several years. Larry was subsequently employed by the J.U.L.I.E. Corporation and was very involved during the 1992 building of their new state-of-the-art facility in Joliet, IL., where to this day, residents & contractors are encouraged to “Call before you dig!” Well into his later career years, Larry continued to substitute teach in Barrington.
Larry was a proud volunteer at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, a place that held special meaning for him. As a volunteer, he worked in several capacities; notably in the Emergency Room, always offering his assistance and compassion where needed. On May 4, 2023, Larry was recognized for 40 years of Volunteer Service to GSH at the Annual Volunteer Recognition Lunch. Larry will be dearly missed by his family and friends, but his character and stories will live on forever. Larry was always his granddaughters’ greatest supporter in all of their achievements.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Betty (nee McNamee) Lincoln; daughter, Doris (Bob) Campbell and son, David (Nancy) Lincoln; grandchildren, Amanda Campbell, Jessica Campbell, and Alexis Lincoln; and many nieces, nephews, wonderful friends and neighbors.
In addition to his parents and parents-in law, he was preceded in death by his brother William P. Lincoln and sisters-in-law Bernadine Lincoln, Lorraine (McNamee) Wessely and Karren (McNamee) Harder.
