Lowell Allan Isenberg

August 13, 1945 — May 21, 2023

Davenport, Lake Zurich

Lowell Allan Isenberg, 77, longtime resident of Lake Zurich, recently of Janesville, WI passed away peacefully on May 21, 2023. He was born on August 13, 1945 in Minneapolis to the late Harvey and Lois Isenberg.

Lowell was very proud of his birthdate and would frequently tell the story of how he and his twin brother, Lance, were born the day news journalists announced the Japanese surrender after World War II. In fact, Lowell was proudly named after Lowell Thomas, America's most trusted voice on the radio in the 40's, and the one who originally broadcasted the news to the American public.

In harmony with the significance of his birthdate, he served in the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 133, also known as the "Sea Bees" or "Kangroo Battalion." He was stationed in multiple locations throughout the South Pacific and provided advance base construction, battle damage repair, contingency engineering, humanitarian assistance and disaster recovery support to the Vietnam War.

Lowell was a proud alumnus of Minnesota State University Mankato, and especially proud of his participation on the university hockey team. His nose would never be the same after being broken at least ten times! - a fact he wore as a badge of honor.

On September 21, 1985, Lowell married Jan Koranda. Together, they celebrated almost 37 beautiful years of marriage until Jan's passing in September 2022. They were blessed with one daughter, Elizabeth, and further blessed with two grandchildren, Clara and Henrik.

Professionally, Lowell's career took a few turns, first starting as a Social Studies teacher and then spanning over four decades at United Airlines, where he was among the first incoming class of male flight attendants before moving into Information Technology (IT). Because he was a "first," he was featured in several United photoshoots and advertisements - photos that are adored by the family to this day!

He will be forever remembered as one of the kindest, most-giving human beings with an unwavering positive outlook on life. His spirit was infectious, often bringing out the best in those around him.

Lowell will be deeply missed by his daughter, Elizabeth (Jeff) Horvath; grandchildren, Clara and Henrik; his twin brother, Lance Isenberg; his four- legged love-of-his-life, Maya; and by many dear life-long friends across the Midwest - from his college friends, to neighbors, to colleagues from United Airlines and so many more.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 8, 2023 from 10:30 AM and will close with a "celebration of life" ceremony at 12:30 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Old Rand Rd., Lake Zurich, IL 60047.

Family, friends and guests are encouraged to bring a story to share at the ceremony and come dressed relaxed, ready for "a day at the lake," in honor of the infamous lake house on Castle Rock Lake.

A small reception will follow at 1:15 PM at Sunset Pavilion on Lake Zurich.

In lieu of flowers or personal gifts, donations may be made to the University of Wisconsin Foundation, UW Carbone Cancer Center. More details can be found here: https://www.wiscmedicine.org/give-via-mail
