Peggy Wickman Bogan

May 10, 1923 — February 18, 2021

Davenport Lake Zurich

Called to God’s Kingdom, beloved mother, grandmother, great- grandmother,  Peggy Wickman Bogan, 97, passed away peacefully with family by her side. Born in Hibbing, MN, Peggy raised her family in Glenview, IL and Lake Geneva,WI.

Peggy always involved herself with the pursuit of life’s beauty and love of others in mind. Her early years of study and work in interior design provided her family and countless others with a warm and welcoming environment of peace, love and laughter. Gracious, courteous, kind and pleasant is how Peggy’s friends described her. Ever optimistic on her life’s journey, she spread joy and laughter with her common sense, dry humor, and “bloom where you are planted” philosophy. “Keep your sunny side up” was a favorite saying and encouragement she shared with anyone in her presence.

One of her favorite places on earth was Anne’s Tablet. Perched above the harbor overlooking the Straits of Mackinac Island, Peggy spent her summers growing up there with her parents, brother, and friends studying astronomy and nature, riding horses and bicycles around the Island. She passed this love of nature on to her children and grandchildren.

Her legacy of family first always included holiday gatherings, lively conversations, sharing her Swedish heritage and her gracious service to others. Throughout Peggy’s life, she will be remembered for her love and care for her family and friends. A lover of children, dogs, and hospitality, Peggy’s door was always open.

Peggy’s special joy of children was constantly felt by all 13 grandchildren and in most recent years, her 7 great-grandchildren. Who she regularly telephoned, wrote letters to and lately face-timed. She also loved phone chats with her family and friends including Robin, Sally and Anna Mary.

Peggy also volunteered in countless civic arenas that benefitted many children outside her own family: Evanston and Children’s Memorial Hospitals, Roycemore School, Holiday Home Camp, Lyon School, Lake Geneva Country Club Children's & Junior’s Days and Elgin Club Days.

Peggy’s lifelong memberships include the First Presbyterian Church of Evanston (1938), the Art Institute of Chicago (1943), Garden Club of America-Lake Geneva Chapter, and Delta Gamma Fraternity (1943) where two daughters and two granddaughters continued Peggy’s legacy in the sorority. Also, she was a former member of the Merchandise Mart Chicago, Lake Geneva Country Club, Westmorland Country Club,  the Junior League of Evanston and the Women’s Athletic Club of Chicago.

Peggy is survived by her four daughters, Pamela Bogan-Boemi, Sandra Bogan, Karen Nelson (Sam) and Diane Palermo (Dan), 19 grand and great grandchildren, nephews Robin and Victor Wickman, dear cousin Anna Mary Cusack, sisters-in-law Sally Jenkins and Barbara VanOrnum and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Olga and Carl Eric Wickman, brother Bob Wickman(Betty), aunts Helga Doud and Lydia Burke, grandparents Anna and Olaf Rodin, former husband, Ralph Bogan, Jr. and great-granddaughter, Baylee Nelson.

Peggy and her family are so grateful to her devoted caregivers Olga and Elizabeth as well as the entire team at the Deer Park Village (former Solana) especially the  CNA and Nursing Team for their exceptional care.
