Ralph J. Guido, Jr.

March 31, 1943 — July 1, 2019

Davenport Crystal Lake

Ralph J. Guido, Jr., 76, of Cary, was born on March 31, 1943 and passed away on July 1, 2019. He was the beloved husband of Kathleen “Dolly” (nee Webb); devoted father of Wendy (Paul) Layshock, Tracy Costain, Joseph (Suzanne) Guido; cherished grandfather of Amanda Costain, Abigail Costain, Liliana Layshock, Autumn Layshock; step-grandfather of Lexi Meadows and Carli Meadows; brother, Timothy (Cynthia) Guido; and loved cousin, uncle and friend to many. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Catherine Guido (nee Sheehan). Ralph loved to make people laugh and was always very welcoming to anyone new to the scene. He was the life of every party. His stories are timeless and his jokes will be remembered for years to come.

He was a union electrician for many years and loved to figure out how things worked. He loved a challenge and could fix or build just about anything mechanical. He was a man who loved to tinker in his garage and was our "Tim the Tool Man". Not only did he build a reputation as an exceptional electrician and supervisor, he created many, many lifelong friendships throughout his time in the trade.

Whenever he was able, he was out on the golf course. He always said that he wasn't very good, but just loved the game. As a Chicago sports fan, he was thrilled when the Cubs won the World Series and the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup.

His prized possession was his original 1971 bright red Pontiac Lemans. As many times as he thought that he'd try to sell it to make "room" in the garage, he never could part with his red hot rod.

His wife of 52 years, Dolly, meant the world to him. They seemed to have some sort of telepathic energy, to the point they almost could read each other’s minds. They both shared the love of laughter and each other’s silly sense of humor. He loved her until the very end.

He thought the world of his children, Wendy, Tracy and Joe and was very fond of his son-in-law, Paul and daughter-in-law, Suzanne. He loved spending time with his family and especially his granddaughters, Amanda, Abby, Liliana and Autumn. When Joe and Suzanne married, Ralph gained two more granddaughters, Lexi and Carli. His granddaughters were the apples of his eye. He loved giving them each their own nicknames, and each one had their own "monkey" nickname. The girls all loved him more than words can express and will miss him terribly.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 8 from 4:00pm until the time of his service at 7:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will be held privately.
