Richard "Dick" G. Arnold

January 7, 1938 — March 29, 2020

Davenport Barrington

Richard “Dick” Gilbert Arnold, 82, of Lake Barrington passed away peacefully on March 29, 2020. He was born on January 7, 1938 in Boston, MA to the late Gilbert and Marion Arnold.

Dick grew up in Lexington, MA. A graduate of the University of Denver, he was drafted out of college and proudly served in the Army, stationed at Fort Dix, NJ. After the Army he started his career at United Airlines’ food service division that spanned 30 years beginning in Los Angeles and then Chicago as a Supervisor, General Manager and Vice President. Never one for idle time, after his retirement from United, Dick spent 17 years at the Archdiocese of Chicago’s University of St. Mary of the Lake campus in Mundelein planning events for both church and corporate groups.

When Dick was not working, he enjoyed time with his family. He loved cooking and grilling for groups of family and friends.  In earlier years, gardening in search of the perfect tomato and his infamous New Year’s Day brunch with milk punch were a few of his passions.  Despite working for United and having the freedom to fly anywhere, vacations always revolved around visiting family. Weeks with parents, siblings and cousins in Maine, Lexington, Denver, and his adopted summer home of Lake City, CO meant the world to Dick. In retirement, Dick volunteered his time serving lunches for BACOA until he was physically unable to do so.

Dick will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 25 years, Eleanor (affectionately referred to as “Mrs. Jones”); children Lisa Arnold, Lori (James) Haughey, Chip (Jessica) Arnold, Kevin (Jessica) Jones, Dan Jones and Alicia Jones-Arkin; 12 grandchildren, Connor and Caitlin Haughey, Brynn and Megan Arnold, Jessica, Rachel, Jack and Kara Jones, Peri and Eila Arkin, Walter and Otis Jones; his loving sister Jeanne Smith of Wells, ME, and his twin brother Bob (Bev) Arnold of Jonesboro, GA and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 29 years, M. Joan Arnold, 1990 and their daughter, Mary Kathleen Arnold, 1965.

Services and interment will be held privately.
