Richard "Nick" W. Nicolay, Sr.

Richard “Nick” W. Nicolay, Sr. passed away April 27, 2022. He was born January 1, 1936 to Woldemar J. and Angelina J. (Hamel) Nicolay.

Nick attended St. Leo Grammar and High Schools and graduated from St. Procopius College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. After graduation, he served as a member of the Illinois National Guard.

He married his childhood sweetheart, Joanne A. Murphy. Together they raised two wonderful children, a daughter Elizabeth A. Nicolay-Bensinger (Ethan) and a son, Richard W. Nicolay, Jr. (Patty).

In 1991, Nick retired from American Credit Indemnity.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and only sibling, Edith Garritano.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joanne; his beloved children, Elizabeth (Ethan) and Richard Jr. (Patty); cherished grandchildren, Richard W. Nicolay III, (Caroline), Tyler M. Nicolay (Stacey), and Nicole E. Nicolay; and great grandson, Richard W. Nicolay IV. He is also survived by his sister’s children, Robert Garritano, Gina Garritano, Thomas Garritano, and Edie Ames.

A private family service will be held. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
