Robert Reckamp, 73, of Crystal Lake died Thursday February 25th, 2016 in McHenry, Illinois. He was born March 20, 1942 in Palatine, Illinois, the son of Claude and Margaret Reckamp.

Robert, the seventh of thirteen children, was raised in Wheeling, Illinois. The family moved to a farm in Harvard when he was 18. He became a journeyman electrician and served in the United States Marine Corps before working as an electrician for many years and then serving as the Regional Energy and Telecommunications Manager for J.C.Penney. After retirement, Bob owned a car wash and managed his rental properties. He was always there to help friends and family with household projects or to assist them in any way.

He and his wife became members of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in 1969. He was a homebound minister and volunteered to do electrical work for the church. His religion and his family were the mainstays of his life. He was adored by his wife, Paula (Golnick) Reckamp, whom he married on July 22, 1967. He made a happy home for his devoted children and sons- and daughters-in-law: Gregory (Julie) Reckamp, Michael (Meg) Reckamp, Laura (Bruce) Canaday, Steven (Erica) Reckamp, and Susan (Jon) Taylor. He was blessed with 16 grandchildren who were the light of his life: Paul, Ellen, and Claudia Reckamp; Adam, Jason, Samuel and Calvin Reckamp; Eric, Sean, Zachary, Erin, and Joanna Canaday; Robert, Peter, Marybeth, and Margaret Reckamp. He loved to spend time with them all.

He also enjoyed traveling, both abroad and in the United States, having visited 21 countries and all 50 states.

Many joy-filled hours were spent in the company of his fun-loving siblings. He is survived by many of them: Sister Alice Reckamp, Thomas (Linda) Reckamp, Ruth Ann (Kenneth) Conter, Melvin (Patricia) Reckamp,Margaret Nowak, Norma (George) Laken, sisters-in-law Lien Reckamp, Jean Reckamp, Monica Reckamp and brothers-in-in-law Ralph (Judi) Golnick, John (Linda) Horcher and John (Jarmila) Kamis. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Claude and Margaret; many aunts and uncles; four brothers, Herbert (Gerry) Reckamp, Kenneth Reckamp, Alan Reckamp, and Wayne Reckamp; two sisters, Florence Horcher, and Eileen Kamis; one brother-in-law, Ed Nowak; two nieces, Gayle Photikarmbumrung, and Anna Reckamp; and one nephew, Nicholas Nowak.

Memorial visitation will be 4-8pm, Thursday, March 3 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave (Route 176), Crystal Lake.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:30am, Friday, March 4 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave (Route 176). Inurnment to follow at Windridge Memorial Park.
