Timothy Charles Riggs

October 29, 1943 — June 29, 2020

Davenport, Lake Zurich

It is with great sadness that the family of Timothy Charles Riggs announces his passing on June 29, 2020. Tim was born in Elgin, Illinois and raised in Dundee. He raised his own children in Crystal Lake with his beloved wife Toni, retiring to Anna, Texas in 2013.

His life's work began as a tool & die maker, eventually retiring after a long and successful career in management and mechanical engineering. Keenly intelligent, Tim’s passion for knowledge was evident in his hobbies, clubs and workshops, as well as his extensive library. He loved art, wood carving, ship and railroad modeling, sewing and cooking, and gardening. And especially the camaraderie of fellow club and band members. His talents extended to music as a banjo and fiddle player, as well as crafting instruments. His hand-wrought black powder rifle demonstrated that nothing was out of reach of his abilities. His work has been displayed in museums around the country as an award-winning ship modeler.

Tim was preceded in death by his father, Charles Riggs, his mother Marjorie Even Riggs & his brother John Even Riggs. The family also lost his beloved brother-in-law Paul (Marloe) Campbell on July 9, 2020 shortly after Tim’s own passing.

He is survived by his beloved wife Antoinette “Toni” Falconer Riggs to whom he was married for almost 57 years, and by his 3 daughters, Marloe (Darrin) Colombo of Anna,TX, Kerri (Mark) Bloom of Palatine, IL and Bridgette (Chris) Bonk of Palatine, IL as well as their 8 grandchildren Jeffrey, Kevin, Olivia, and Conrad Bloom; Nicholas (Danell) Colombo, Georgina (Jason) Flores, Britta Colombo & Troy Colombo. He also leaves behind 7 great-grandchildren: Christian Bloom, Chrysanthemum & Malachi Simpson, Derek & Logan Flores, and Harper & Wren Colombo. He is also survived by his sister Marloe Campbell, brother Steven (Sherri) Riggs, his sister-in-law Joan Riggs, and many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.

Tim had immense love for family and friends. He spent endless hours sharing his own interests and abilities as well as encouraging others to pursue their own. He loved his grandkids and great-grandkids, and rarely missed one of their performances or games. Tim exposed them to innumerable experiences. Oshkosh airshows, swimming with dolphins, countless museums, and continuous new experiences whether the likes of Hilton Head Island, fish hatcheries, or Chicago’s Chinatown. He showed them how to build, garden, and make models, and treasured time with them whether at the lake or Sunday dinners together.

Tim was a kind and modest man. He was loved by his wife, daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, extended family and the many friends he considered family. He will be greatly missed.
